The need to rectify the long-term deficiences in Freshford’s flood defences remain unresolved despite a previous government’s commitment of €3.8 million to address the issue back in 2018.
Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran was the minister of state who approved that commitment and he re-assumed that same portfolio just over a year ago.
Speaking to KCLR News, local Councillor Michael McCarthy said it was high time for some ministerial action to ease the concerns of local residents during weather alerts.
“Small remedial work would, in the short term, be very beneficial and would prevent an awful lot of the flooding.” said Councillor McCarthy.
“What I was asking Boxer Moran is that could he not fast forward some small amount of money, like something like maybe €70,000 to €100,000, to allow this work to take place, and that would have a huge impact in the affected areas.” he added.
