Country celebrates BAFTA wins by Jessie Buckley and film that included work by a Kilkenny man

Ireland’s celebrating its latest success at the BAFTAs.

Kerry star Jessie Buckley, who went to school in Thurles, County Tipperary, became the first Irish to win the Leading Actress category for the role she played in ‘Hamnet’.

The film also took home the Outstanding British Film accolade but her co-star Paul Mescal unfortunately lost out to Seán Penn.

The big winner of the night was ‘One Battle After Another’ with six awards, including Best Film.

But Avatar, which includes the work of Kilkenny man Colbert Fennelly, took home the Special Visual Effects prize.
