A local driving instructor says she really disappointed that there are professionals in the industry who would act like that.
161 complaints were made last year to the Road Safety Authority from unhappy learner drivers last year about the quality of driving lessons and instruction.
One teacher spent an entire lesson watching a movie on his phone while another complained about a teacher who tailgated a car, flashed the lights and gestured at another motorist.
Brenda Bolger from the Bolger School Of Motoring has this adise for motorists if they are unhappy with their instructor. The public need to realise you’re not tied to the same driving instructor for everything.”
“You can chop and change if you’re not getting one that meets the standards that you expect and quite rightly, if people are using your time for their personal errands, you absolutely should complain and you absolutely have the right to say no to the instructor as well.”
She has also encouraged young people to get a voice when it comes to unprofessional behaviour: “I wouldn’t have thought I would ever have had to sit in a car with an adult who wants to be an instructor and tell them that watching a movie while you’re delivering a driving lesson is an unacceptable form of behaviour.”
“Younger people, stand up for yourselves. You’re paying this person to teach you a skill. Make sure that you’re getting the objective of that lesson, that you come away from that lesson learning what it was you were supposed to learn.”
