Residents in the Ballinabrannagh, Leighlin and Old Leighlin areas of County Carlow remain impacted by the ongoing roadworks outside the SETU campus on the Kilkenny Road.
The extent of the delays have led many to voice their concerns to local Councillor Daniel Pender.
Speaking to KCLR News, Cllr. Pender said that some residents are taking a rarely considered detour in their attempt to avoid the Kilkenny Road tailbacks: “So typically people from this area will be able to drive into Carlow Ttown in around fifteen minutes on a light enough day or even just a normal enough day commuting into work.”
“It’s now taking about 45 minutes most mornings and some of them have actually resorted to hopping on the motorway at Loughlin and driving all the way up to the Castledermot exit to get into town and it’s actually quicker, but it’s probably about double the journey when you get down to the kilometres there.”
“It just doesn’t make sense.”
