Kilkenny County Council has granted a 10-year planning permission for a significant solar energy development set to cover approximately 189 hectares.
The large-scale solar farm from Drumdowney Solar Farm Ltd will stretch across 18 townlands of Atateemore or Blackneys, Ballyhobuck, Ballyrahan, Carriganurra, Charlestown, Davidstown, Drumdowney Lower, Drumdowney Upper, Gorteens, Grogan, Kilmurry, Nicholastown, Rathpatrick, Scartnamoe, Tinvaucoosh, and Treanaree and once operational, it is expected to generate renewable electricity for up to 40 years.
The approved plans include ground-mounted solar panels, transformer and weather stations, underground cabling, CCTV, and access roads.
The approval comes with 42 conditions.
