The Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) are holding a national protest in County Kildare today (Saturday) as it escalates its dispute with Bord Bia.
At 2.30pm, farmers from across the country will convoy to Newbridge, home to Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon’s constituency office.
The protest will include tractors, machinery, cars, jeeps and farmers on foot.
The IFA says the Minister must “do the right thing” and remove Larry Murrin as Chair of Bord Bia, claiming farmers have lost all faith in him.
Carlow IFA Sheep Chair Marian Dalton told KCLR that pressure must be maintained.
“The minister really, he has to step up now when he has to support us and he’s our minister at the end of the day and it’s what we would expect from him and I suppose this is just another part of the whole process to put some pressure on and this has to kind of end soon and you know it has to end.” said Marian.
