The economic significance of Graiguenamanagh’s Town of Books Festival for the locality cannot be underestimated, according to the event’s organiser.
Mary Whelan was reacting after the Festival and Event Grant Scheme funding was once again provided for this year’s event by Kilkenny County Council. The festival will take place in August.
Speaking to KCLR News, Mary explained the importance of the festival to the local economy.
“It brings the most amount of visitors, you know, over a weekend, busiest weekend of the year.” she said.
“B&Bs, guest houses, short-time rentals, restaurants, pubs, they all benefit from the increase in trade over that weekend, so it boosts local economy and strengthens tourism in the area as well, so it’s, you know, fantastic.” she added.
