Funding to improve both the N29 Port Road to Belview and the Slieverue Roundabout has been welcomed by local political representatives.
The €900,000 project is expected to commence shortly and is considered a long-overdue programme of works by local residents and commuters alike.
Councillor Ger Frisby told KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes that he and fellow Councillors had successfully made the funding case for the increasingly busy route; “It’s badly needed and we’ve been pushing for it for a good while but we have the funding in place now so it’ll be starting this year, obviously with the volume of lorries and all that that use the port every day the road is worse for ware now and the weather conditions we’ve had constant rain for the last however many, fifty-something days so that doesn’t help but look it the funding is in place now and the work will commence fairly shortly on it to redo all that area”.
