Migrants and their contribution to Irish society should be regognised and celebrated.
Thats according to Labour Councillor Seán Ó hArgáin who has raised concerns over negative incidents in recent months and calling for Ireland to be a welcoming country.
His party has launched the ‘Together We Thrive’ campaign which highlights how migrants play a vital role in local communities including healthcare, hospitality and other key sectors across Carlow and Kilkenny.
“It’s not that long since the famous no dogs, no Irish and no black signs were erected in Boston, where eight out of nine in my own grandmother’s family emigrated.”
“It was the same in London and the same in other areas. We’ve experienced racism, we still, as Irish people, suffer from racism in some countries abroad.”
“So it’s crucially important that we stand up and say this is not acceptable ever in our country.”
