Calls are growing for more parking at Bagenalstown train station after the cancellation of a key bus route.
Cllr Daniel Pender says the loss of the Bus Éireann Route 4 service has increased reliance on rail, particularly for rural commuters.
The council has asked for the car park to be expanded, with officials agreeing to examine the proposal as local councillors continue to push for action.
Cllr Pender told KCLR News he doesn’t agree with the cancellation of the bus route noting; “We agreed to send a letter outlining our concerns to the Department, TII and Bus Éireann, from my own personal experience on it, I was on it fairly recently at a non peak time and the bus was half to 75% full so I really don’t understand how it’s unprofitable and how it’s fair to leave such a vast swathe of the country unserved by Bus Éireann”.
