Minister for Education Hildegarde Naughton will address the Teachers Union of Ireland congress at the Lyrath Convention Centre this afternoon on the second day of the union’s annual conference.
TUI President Anthony Quinn will respond to the Minister’s address as delegates continue to discuss the concerns and challenges currently facing the profession.
Speaking to KCLR News, these teachers offered their views on the issues that matter most to them:
“Extra hours expected of the teachers, an extra workload, and that the recent pay raise doesn’t necessarily reflect the extra expectations on the teachers, I suppose.”
“For me, I’d like to see significant improvement in support for schools in recruiting and retaining staff. We have significant turnover of staff on a yearly basis all moving to jobs outside Dublin where accommodation is that bit more affordable.”
“So I suppose perspective of the new CID for a one-year CID for young teachers so it’s great to have a voice for young teachers especially those that are in other countries like you know in the Middle East or abroad internationally that there’s an opportunity to gain permanency.”
