The next tranche of local troops are bound for the Lebanon next month.
The 128th Infantry Battalion will deploy as part of a six month UN peacekeeping mission with UNIFIL.
The unit includes 25 personell from Carlow and Kilkenny, each of whom has completed intensive training in Limerick and Wicklow ahead of the mission.
They’ll deploy in three phases throughout May with Commanding Officer Laois based Lieutenant Colonel Damian Carroll.
A Ministerial review of the group will take place later today involving the Minister for Defence, Ms Helen McEntee T.D., accompanied by Deputy Chief of Staff Support, Major General Colm Ó’Luasa.
KCLR News’ Martin Quilty was out and about getting views from locals on whether we should send our troops to Lebanon.
