A local TD is calling for an urgent increase in parking spaces at Bagenalstown Train Station to help commuters.
Peter “Chap” Cleere says current parking charges at rural stations should be permanently scrapped to encourage more people to use public transport.
He has brought the issue to the Dáil, arguing that those living outside the M50 shouldn’t be “punished” with additional costs and a lack of facilities.
“And I’ve spoken with the NTA and I’ve spoken with Irish Rail in relation to that.” said Deputy Cleere.
“I’m meeting the Minister for Transport, Dara Brien, to try and make sure that the infrastructure and facilities are here so that if you’re from rural Ireland that you can have access to public infrastructure and that the facilities are there and that there’s free parking and you have accessibility.” he added.
