Benches installed in Kilkenny city are temporary.
Yesterday, we shared photos of the structures on The Parade to gauge public opinion and people responded in their droves, views as expected quite mixed.
Some loved the wooden element, for others it created concerns re durability.
KCLR News had contacted Kilkenny County Council – in a statement they say that the seating was put in “pending minor improvements works to the surface of the Mayor’s Walk, after which they will be permanently installed there” adding that “these replace the concrete benches that were unsuitable for some users and limited the use of the spaces, particularly for markets and festivals”.
14 are along The Parade’s low wall bounding the Mayor’s Walk with six more between the trees on the Mayor’s Walk.
The local authority spokesperson notes; “These seats include Age Friendly designs and are removeable to provide greater flexibility for events and festivals”.
The cost of the seating is €69,283.
