A good guy. A man above politics. A great colleague. These were among the tributes paid to Councillor Michael Doran (FG) by his Muinebheag Municipal District (MD) colleagues upon succeeding Cllr Daniel Pender (FF) as Cathaoirleach at the AGM held at McGrath Hall on Wednesday.
First elected to Carlow County Council in 2004, Cllr Doran runs his family’s electrical business in Leighlinbridge and is among the few rate payers in Carlow currently holding a Council seat.
Cllr Doran was proposed for the chair by Cllr Pender and seconded by Cllr Tommy Kinsella (FG) and said he is honoured to be holding the brief “in a more normal year” given that his previous term as Cathaoirleach coincided with the Covid-19 restrictions.
“I’m looking forward to getting all around the district, and having the opportunity to meet with Tidy Towns groups, local businesses and engaging with the Chamber of Commerce,” said Cllr Doran.
Following his election, Cllr Doran spoke to KCLR News about the excitement and challenge that the year ahead looks set to provide.
