The newly elected Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council says he wants to do his best for everybody during his term.
Cllr Joe Malone was elected at the Annual General Meeting of the local authority yesterday evening. He takes over from Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh
Cllr Malone has previously served as Mayor of Kilkenny City on two occasions, but this election marks his first time to hold the Cathaoirleach’s seat.
Speaking earlier on The Saturday Show with Edward Hayden, Cllr Malone says he wants to do his best for everyone…
“it’s not going to be plain sailing and you know it as well as I do. I am what I am, and that’s it and I don’t, you know, I just want to do my best for people, be there for people, listen to people.”
“Everybody is not a fan of Joe Malone and I’m not talking about the perfume though, but they don’t have to be, but I just want to reach out to people and if I can make a difference to anybody, I will.”
The Fianna Fail councillor says his theme for the year will be volunteering as its important that we recognise them across the county…
“I’m going to do it countywide – North, South, East, and West. Maybe it might be some Kilkenny person abroad, we might honour, we’ll see.”
“I’m going to put a few people together and just to look at doing it, because I think it’s very important to honour people in our community, because it’s going to go back to the volunteer, because we need volunteers, we need pay staff as well, but we need volunteers.”
