The Justice Minister has confirmed he’s asked his department to investigate why static speed cameras in Carlow and Kilkenny are issuing far more speeding fines than others across the country.
The topic was raised in the Dáil by Wexford TD George Lawlor who highlighted figures showing the Glenmore camera in County Kilkenny issued more than 30,000 fines in 11 months, while the N80 camera in Carlow recorded almost 16,000.
Minister Jim O’Callaghan said the figures “jumped out” at him and admitted he doesn’t yet have an explanation, but confirmed he has asked departmental officials to examine the disparity.
