The Irish Farmers Association’s launched a CAP hub to highlight the impact a proposed €2.5billion cut to the EU Budget would devastate food production and rural communities.
Members believe the next three months are critical to secure a viable deal for farmers here with organisation President Francie Gorman saying now is not the time to see food security supports decrease.
The IFA has five key asks on CAP post 2027, the first of which seeks an increased budget as opposed to the almost quarter drop projected.
Mr Gorman says; “The proposed cuts at the moment will see a 24% cut to the CAP Budget as it stands, if that came to be it would result in an average payment per hectare for every farm in the country of €130 per hectare, we’ve launched a CAP hub today which would allow farmers to go on, see the scale of the cuts on their own county, on their own farm and for example on my own county in Laois the cut would be about €3,500”.
That figure for Kilkenny is €4,015 and €3,767 for Carlow.
