Former Kilkenny City and County Manager Patrick (Paddy) Donnelly has passed away.
Mr. Donnelly, who originally hailed from Drogheda but lived on College Road in Kilkenny, led the local authority for 26 years until his retirement in 2002.
Affectionately known as P.J., Mr. Donnelly arrived at a time when Kilkenny City faced severe water shortages, he spearheaded critical infrastructure projects that transformed the locality.
He was the driving force behind the delivery of the Troyswood Water Treatment Plant and pioneered the 1980 Purcellsinch Main Drainage Scheme—a project that famously utilised early public-private partnerships to safeguard the county’s environment and industry.
He will be reposing at his home on Monday evening from 4pm, concluding with the Rosary at 7pm.
Removal takes place on Tuesday morning for 12 noon Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, College Road, followed by burial in Foulkstown Cemetery.
