Carlow County Council is warning of the potentially fatal consequences of tampering with traffic lights, after a control box on the Kilkenny Road was forcibly opened last night.
The box at the junction with Mooneys Garage was damaged, with switches and pedestrian crossing controls interfered with.

The lights were repaired before this morning’s school and college traffic, but the incident has been reported to Gardaí.
Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station.

Carlow County Council CEO Coilin O’Reilly says additional security measures, including CCTV, will now be considered at the junction.
