The emerging route corridor for the long-awaited Carlow Southern Relief Road has been selected, with public consultation on the proposal to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
Carlow Municipal District Councillors will have an information session with the project’s consultants prior to the next County Council meeting on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Following both meetings, letters will be sent to all potentially affected landowners along the corridor, which will be up to 200 metres wide at its broadest point.
Upon construction, the road will be approximately 50 metres wide.
Carlow Municipal District Chairperson, Councillor Ken Murnane, told KCLR about the next steps involved in this major road development.
“The actual route now is ready to be approved. Once it’s approved, the commitment that we have is if the whole project doesn’t be completed, it will be divided in three sections, A, B, and C. B being section at the Old Snoddy Road from Eire Og Road over to the Wexford Road. That will be the top priority.” says Councillor Murnane.
