Gardaí have confirmed they’ve launched a murder investigation into ‘the arson attack and fatal house fire’ in Waterford city.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at about 5am this morning. (KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes spoke to The KCLR Daily from the scene).

Two adults, a man and a woman, and two of their children died in the incident at Birchwood while two other children are in hospital receiving treatment for injuries described as ‘critical’.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has told KCLR News that an incident room has been set up at Waterford Garda Station and a senior investigating officer as well as Family Liaison Officers have been appointed.
An appeal’s been issued for anybody who was in the Birch Avenue area of Birchwood or those with information on the multiple murder to contact the investigators on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
