A Kilkenny man with ‘locked-in syndrome’ is settling back into his home in Castlecomer this lunchtime.

Gerry McDermott who has been a patient at St Lukes hospital for more than 2 years now came to public attention after his wife Valerie contacted the Sue Nunn show about his situation.

He had threatened to go on hunger strike if he wasnt allowed home and care package was approved back in February to allow that to happen.

He was taken home by ambulance this morning.

Valerie told Sue they just cant wait to welcome him home but had a special word for the nurses who cared for him in the hospital.
