Day procedures at St Lukes hospital are being postponed & rescheduled due to a recent increase in the numbers presenting at the emergency department.
Flu is thought to be the main reason for the spike in numbers.
As a result you’re being asked only to present in the case of a genuine emergency at the moment.
The hospital has had to take a number of measures including opening additional beds in the Day ward at night.
They are also working to reduce the length of stay for patients
Day services are being affected though with all available beds in use – it means that non-urgent day inpatient procedures are being deferred.
The hospital management says those who have had procedures postponed will be contacted with a new appointment date as quickly as possible.
General manager Anne Slattery told KCLR the situation has eased slightly today.
