SCHOOLS

The School Completion Programme teams locally are available to help access schools, give advice on school transport as well as assistance with some form filling. They can be contacted via the following:

In Ireland, formal education is compulsory from the age of 6 to age 16.  Most kids start primary schooling at age 4, and by age 5 all kids are in primary school.  Primary schooling lasts for 8 years: 2 kindergarten years and classes 1-6. FAMILY SUPPORT

  • Community Connect can provide practical support to pregnant women and those with young children to the age of three years.  They help with items like buggies, cots, high chairs, clothes etc. Contact for the service in Kilkenny is Jill 087 135 2082.
  • Family Resource Centres can be found in almost every town across Carlow and Kilkenny with a range of supports in each. Find the one closest to you here.
  • The Immigrant Support Clinic can help with providing information, advocacy and one-to-one support as well as assistance in filling forms and letter writing, processing applications, renewing residency permits and advice on immigration matters, social welfare and citizenship.  They meet people by appointment each Monday a the Fr McGrath Centre in Kilkenny City – contact Theresa 086 1927033 or Samuel 086 1966073 or email immigrantservicekk.com

ANIMAL CARE

If you’re bringing a pet with you to Ireland there are some considerations (see here) and there are a range of veterinary clinics that can assist you should your animal become ill or need treatment.

In particular:

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES

  • The Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board (ETB) is offering English classes at different locations across the two counties.

  • Failte Isteach deliver English language classes at the Fr McGrath Centre in Kilkenny City each Wednesday morning, with English in the workplace sessions on Fridays, all in a welcoming space where integration and engagement and connection can take place. It’s sociable, fun with learning in a relaxed atmosphere that also caters for individual needs.
  • Classes can also be done online via esolcourses.com 

DRIVING CLASSES & OTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
