Mozambique is one of the poorest counties in the world, destroyed by war and constrained economy, but now thankfully in the process of recovery. Orlaith’s volunteer work in Mozambique will involve working with a youth centre aiming to provide young people with skills training and personal development and leading an outreach to local orphanages and community organisations.
- Eimear Dolan is a Second Year Occupational Therapy student in Trinity College Dublin. During summer 2017, Eimear will be travelling, in a volunteer capacity, to Sri Lanka in South Asia, on behalf of the charitable organization SLV.Global. This organisation aims to provide volunteers with an opportunity to gain practical experience contributing to community development abroad. In 2004, Sri Lanka suffered a devastating tsunami resulting in serious physical and mental implications for the locals people. Eimear’s voluntary work is mainly of a mental health capacity and will involve responding to the psychological needs of trauma sufferers, by working in psychiatric institutions, as well as additional work with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
