World War One started exactly 100 years ago for a group of Kilkenny men.
On the 6th of August 1914, 500 Kilkenny reservists marched from the Barraks the Train Station.

They were Marching off to war two days after Britain officially declared war on Germany, many of them hoping their support of the war effort would help achieve an independent Irish State as claimed by John Redmond.
