Glanbia Farm Show – 22/6/2017

Tonight’s show had a historical and forward looking emphasis.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the founding of Kilkenny Creamery, Matt O’Keeffe is putting together a series of interviews with people who have been involved over the years with the dairy cooperative. The first of these interviews was with Bob Cody, who worked in a variety of roles with Kilkenny Creamery and is now a contractor haulier who, with his sons and staff collects milk for Glanbia and delivers it to Ballyragget, Belview and Virginia. Connolly’s Red Mills have been based in Goresbridge, Kilkenny for more than 100 years and are officially opening a new retail outlet at Cillin Hill on June 23rd. Both the EU Commissioner for Agriculture Phil Hogan and the Australian ambassador Richard Andrews will be there. Martin Bridgeman interviewed Joe Connolly and Michael Feehan. In a diary item of interest to anyone coming to grips with increasing reliance on ICT in farming and with the imminent obligation for her regustration in 2020, the Kilkenny Branch of the IFA is running courses on basic ICT skills for farmers. Among topics discussed and explained will be use of the internet, email, how to use Revenue ROS for Taxation and systems for Farm Payments and Skype.
