A decision on a proposed hike of 15 percent in the property tax in Kilkenny has been deferred.
Councillors will now sit down next week to discuss and vote on the proposal. It’s understood members felt more time was needed and so a special meeting was called for next Monday.
Council officials say its the only option and would generate an additional 1.1 million euro for the local authority to spend in 2018.
Head of Finance Martin Prenderville explained that most local households (90%) are valued at €200,000 or less and so would not have to pay any more than an extra €47 per year if the 15% hike is applied.
