The volume of work involved is the main reason why structures that are put forward for the protected list in Kilkenny can’t all be added to it.
At a recent meeting of the county council 27 structures were proposed to be added because of their architectural or culture importance but only 18 were actually put through.
Those that didn’t make the cut include the Brigidine Convent in Paulstown and Sheestown House in Kilkenny.
Speaking to KCLR News, Architectural Conservation Officer with the Council, Francis Coady says it’s not that the buildings don’t warrant protection, but there’s a huge amount of work that goes with it.
Just one that had been on the list was removed – that was Perle’s Shop in Gowran that had been added in 2010.
