An estate in county Kilkenny is set to enjoy a strengthened water network.
Uisce Éireann has successfully completed works for Newtown Terrace in Thomastown and says this enables it to deliver a more reliable water supply for homes and businesses in the community there.
Over 240m of ageing cast iron watermains along Lady Well and Maudlin Street were replaced while 381m of outdated backyard service connections decommissioned.
In older estates like Newtown Terrace, some water connections were installed to the rear of properties and can be prone to leaks. Replacing them has strengthened the network and made it easier to maintain, improving service for the local community.
Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, Dave Murphy, says: “Providing a reliable water supply for the people of Thomastown is at the heart of this work. Every pipe we replace brings us closer to a network that communities can depend on every day. We know how important a consistent supply is to daily life, and these works in Newtown Terrace are already making a real difference for local homes and businesses. By investing here, we are helping to deliver a stronger, more resilient water service for the community now and into the future.”
