3 local waste-water plants fail 2012 tests but improvements have been made says EPA

Irish water says it faces some serious challenges in terms of addressing years of under-investment in waste water infrastructure.

It follows the publication today of a report by the EPA on urban waste water systems which revealed that 44 large plants in the country were not fully compliant when examined in 2012.

3 of them are in Kilkenny – in the city, Callan & Thomastown –  but the EPA has acknowledged that improvements have been made in those cases.

Irish Water and not our local authorities are now responsible for managing water services.

Elizabeth Arnett says they have a lot of work to do, with a lot of investment needed.
