4 still in Garda custody after Urlingford post office robbery
Four men remain in custody locally this morning after an armed robbery took place in the post office in Urlingford, run by Margaret Tynan, yesterday afternoon.
A woman received minor injuries during the incident which took place at around 12 o’clock.
The armed and masked men threatened staff before leaving with a substantial sum of money.
Gardaí quickly set up road blocks and stopped a car travelling on the Urlingford to Freshford road and arrested 3 men all aged in their mid twenties.
In a follow-up search a car was discovered burned out near Urlingford and a fourth man aged in his 40s was arrested in Kilkenny City at around 4 o’clock.
A significant sum of money was recovered during the arrests and subsequent searches.
The four men are being detained under section 4 of the criminal justice act at Kilkenny, Thomastown and Carlow Garda Stations.
