Rare items go under the hammer of local auction house

A 19th century book on Dame Alice Kyteler is just one of the almost 800 items going under the hammer of a local auctioneer today.

Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers in Castlecomer have their December auction of 775 rare books, manuscripts and watercolours running all day today.

The collection also includes a first edition of popular children’s book ‘The Cat in the Hat’, signed by the author, Dr Seuss which is expected to fetch up to 700 euro.

The auction started at 10.30am this morning.

Auctioneer George Fonsie Mealy told KCLR news that most of the items for sale are very rare.
