Mixed day for Carlow hurlers and footballers at the weekend

Carlow had mixed fortunes yesterday in their first piece of action for the new year.

The footballers had a bad day as Meath recorded a resounding victory in the O Byrne cup opener at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Carlow got a goal through Benny Kavanagh in the 48th minute, but Meath powered on to a 1-18 to 1-4 victory.

Speaking to KCLR after the game, Carlow manager Turlough O Brien said that his side were ring rusty on the day…….

However there was better news for Carlow Senior Hurlers who recorded a 0-19 to 1-13 win against Meath in the Walsh Cup in Navan despite only having 15 players available for selection on the day

Speaking to KCLR after the game, Carlow Hurling analyst Joe Nolan says that numbers will always be tight with so little clubs…..

Elsewhere  I.T Carlow were comfortably defeated by DCU in the o Byrne Cup at Netwtach Training centre in Fenagh yesterday despite two goals from Sean McGraynor.

While the hurlers also lost out Wexford in Bunclody on Saturday in the Walsh Cup.
