Ambulance response times come under fire

Questions are being raised over response times locally by the ambulance service.

Its after a woman told KCLR she had to wait over an hour for an ambulance to attend her mother when she collapsed in a restaurant in Kilkenny city on Sunday night.

The HSE has responded to reports of the incident confirming a call was received just before 10 to 8 that evening but as all local emergency ambulance resources were attending other calls at the time the first available resource was dispatched from Athy to the scene arriving at 5 to 9.

This morning another KCLR Live listener in Kilkenny recalled almost a 2 hour wait in Kilkenny when her daughter collapsed after Christmas.

Deirdre says she was told first the ambulance was coming from Waterford but instead it came from Clonmel.

Meanwhile the wife of a local paramedic contacted the show to highlight the pressure that her husband and his colleagues are under saying they are ‘totally stretched to the limit’
