Schools & colleges in Kilkenny & Carlow mark Proclamation Day

Students right across Carlow and Kilkenny will be part of Ireland’s first ever Proclamation Day today.
From primary school pupils to college and university students normal schedules are being replaced with special ceremonies to celebrate and mark the significance of the Proclamation.
St Fiacc’s National School, Graiguecullen will start their event at 10am with the raising the flag, a reading of the original Proclamation, followed by a reading of their Proclamation for a New Generation and performance of ‘Neth our Flag’ a song composed by the pupils in 5th class.
This afternoon at IT Carlow theres a flag raising ceremony and a reading of the Proclaimation by students in period costume.
It’ll be attending by members of the O’Hanrahan family – Carlow’s Michael O’Hanrahan was a key figure in the Easter Rising, fought with Thomas McDonagh at Jacobs factory and was executed by the British at Kilmainham Gaol.
