Staff and Students at Muinebheag Vocational School in Bagenalstown are coming to terms with the news that their principal has stepped down.
KCLR news understands that David O’Flaherty informed staff this week that he would be leaving the position.
In a statement to KCLR news today, the Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board has confirmed that Mr O’Flaherty has taken up a role as Project Officer within the ETB.
Former vice-principal Jimmy Dermody, is now acting principal at the local School.
The news of David’s departure comes as the future of the school hangs in the balance – after the Kilkenny Carlow ETB announced they would close it if enrolment numbers don’t reach 20 by 2017.
Following a public meeting about the proposed closure, that decision was postponed on the condition that 20 students enrol in first year in 2017.
This mornings statement addresses that issue and says that “the management and staff of the school are working on an action plan in response to the recommendation of the Task Force Report”
However, KCLR news understands that only 12 first year students started at the school this week.
