Christy is warning others to be vigilant after a scammer who claimed to be from Eir managed to gain remote access to his phone.
He told The KCLR Daily that he spent over an hour on the phone with what he described as a very professional-sounding man.
Christy said he was shocked by just how convincing the scammer was after being contacted about a supposed problem with his internet connection. The scammer was able to rope Christy in because he had in fact been experiencing issues recently.
In hindsight, he realised that a company like Eir would never call customers directly regarding matters like connection problems and urged people to remember that.
