The Health and Safety Authority say there was a drop of over 20% in workplace fatal accidents during 2016.
However, work-related deaths on farms remain high.
Over the past 12 months a total of 44 people died as a result of injuries they got in their places of work.
Two of those happened in County Kilkenny while a Kilkenny man also died in one of the incidents that happened in Kildare.
The county with the most workplace accidents last year was Cork, at 8.
Meanwhile, there was one FARM fatality in Carlow and two in Kilkenny.
The HSA says that tractors or other farm vehicles are the biggest contributors to farm deaths – causing 10 of them in 2016.
Most of those killed are also over the age of 65.
In total, 44 people were killed in workplaces last year – a 20% reduction on the previous year – while 21 people died in agricultural accidents – up from 18 in 2015.
The HSA is warning that there is still a systemic problem with safety on farms and it must be made an integral part of farming culture.
