There’s huge local involvement in this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
The industry’s huge in Carlow and Kilkenny, employing a considerable number of people with the area punching above its weight in terms of the number of successful jockies, trainers and horse owners over the years.
The four-day racing event gets underway today and many will travel across the pond to take soak up the atmosphere, those at home left glued to the radio ro TV screens.
Today’s action includes a race named after the late Mrs Maureen Mullins, the local woman hailed as the Mother of Irish Racing.
