The weather wreaked havoc on the hurling calendar this weekend, with both Kilkenny and Carlow’s Allianz National Hurling League games postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Kilkenny were set to take on reigning champions Limerick in Roinn 1A at UPMC Nowlan Park, but heavy rainfall rendered the pitch unplayable. Meanwhile, Carlow’s clash with Laois in Roinn 1B at O’Moore Park also fell victim to the conditions.

Speaking on KCLR’s Hurling Podcast, eight-time All-Ireland winner Aidan “Taggy” Fogarty shared the players’ frustration at late postponements:

“You want to be playing hurling on these types of weekends. Even the kind of fixture that it was – it was the big guns coming to town, it was Limerick. It was to gauge yourself to where you’re at. There was a good buzz around the city, a lot of people were going to the game. All of a sudden, it’s like pulling the rug from under you.

“And in the back of your head, you know you’re going to be doing a slog of a training session on some pitch around the county, doing runs – which you don’t want to be doing. You want to be playing matches.”

Kilkenny currently sit second in the Roinn 1A table, bouncing back from an earlier defeat to Galway with a convincing win over Wexford. Carlow, meanwhile, are third in Roinn 1B, with Offaly leading the group.
