Carlow’s chances of promotion are fading following their 1-17 to 0-13 defeat to Limerick in the Division 4 Allianz Football League at Netwatch Cullen Park on Saturday.
Speaking to KCLR after the match, Carlow manager Shane Curran admitted that his side struggled to recover after Limerick’s early second-half goal.
“We conceded a goal straight after the second half. That’s a five-point game straight away after the first 30 seconds of the second half and you’re on the backfoot then”.
He also acknowledged that his side lacked the physical edge needed to compete with Limerick.
“I’m very disappointed. I felt looking at Limerick previously, it was a game that we could win but when I looked at the two teams lining up for the national anthem, if you looked at our team versus their team there was a mark difference in physicality. I think Wexford had that last week as well”.
With the championship approaching, the Carlow manager sees the remaining games as an opportunity to try and build his team’s confidence.
“Building confidence and building trust in themselves is something that the guys need to work towards and it’s our job to help them to do that. If they’re the same player this year as they were last year well then we failed to do our job”.
