Carlow is celebrating with the official unveiling of a community symbol called LUNA the Elephant, a brightly painted large sculpture who has reached her permanent home at the Carlow County Council Community Garden.
She’s been on a 12-month tour where the sculpture visited 50 local business sponsors to help smash the stigma surrounding mental health.
Linette Madley from Carlow Mental Health told KCLR’s Edward Hayden what the symbolism of the elephant means.
“It’s to attract attention and people to then start the conversation about who’s this elephant, what is she doing, you know? And we all have um an elephant in the room, you know? And um whether it is um a problem at work with a colleague, or whether it is something with the family, or whether it is, in our case, where we promoting mental health, we all have that elephant. And she is encouraging having an open conversation and a connected conversation.” said Linette
