Carlow were defeated 3-17 to 2-29 by Dublin in Round 5 of the Division 1B Allianz Hurling League at Parnell Park on Saturday evening.

Following their defeat, KCLR Sports analyst Joe Nolan gave his thoughts on the Carlow side’s performance.
He recognised the poor first-half display Carlow put in, highlighting issues with their defensive setup, which allowed Dublin to create their own opportunities.
“I thought maybe they got it a bit wrong in the first half in how they were set up. I don’t think that deep-sitting setup really suits us. We missed a lot of tackles, we weren’t aggressive and Dublin were getting easy balls out”.
Nolan highlighted the positive shift in Carlow’s play during the second half, pointing to their increased pressure on Dublin, which helped disrupt their rhythm.
“In the second half, we were far higher up the pitch and pressed Dublin far higher up the pitch. It was a good sign to see that the Dublin wing backs had no shot at goal”.
Looking at the bigger picture, Nolan emphasized that for the team to progress, the younger players must rise to the occasion and fully capitalize on the game time they are given.
“If we are to progress Carlow hurling, not only in this year’s league and this year’s Joe MacDonagh we need these lads to get game time. This league campaign so far has seen a good spread of players”.
Carlow’s next challenge comes this Saturday against Laois at Laois Hire O’Moore Park, with the match being crucial for their survival in Division 1B.
