Kilkenny Chamber CEO, John Hurley, has raised concerns that President Donald Trump’s tariffs, set to be announced today as part of his “liberation day,” could disrupt local businesses.
A 20% tariff on EU goods is expected, with one-third of Ireland’s exports headed for the U.S.
Mr. Hurley, speaking to KCLR News, highlighted that pharmaceutical companies in Kilkenny and across Ireland face uncertainty, as exports to the U.S. could be halved if tariffs are imposed.
He stressed the need for businesses to adapt and prepare for potential challenges, urging a collaborative response from both companies and policymakers.
Leas Ceann Comhairle John McGuinness says that officials in Leinster House are worried but says a lot of work is been done behind the scenes.
He spoke to our Martin Quilty about them.
