The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched a national farm safety inspection campaign aimed at improving safety around tractors, machinery, and work vehicles.

In the past five years, there have been 28 vehicle-related deaths on farms, prompting the HSA to urge farmers to make safety a top priority.

The campaign, which will run until April 15th, focuses on reducing fatalities and injuries, particularly emphasising the safe use of tractors and machinery.

Ger Hartnett, Senior Farm Safety Inspector with the HSA, spoke to KCLR News about ways farmers can stay safe. He advised them to “plan ahead, check the HSA website for guidance, ensure operators are trained and competent, and make sure machinery is in good working order.”

This initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage proactive safety measures to protect farm workers across the country.
