The Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin says Bishop Niall Coll will be a huge loss to Ossory.
Bishop Denis Nulty says the announcement that Bishop Coll had been appointed as the new Bishop of Raphoe by Pope Leo XVI, came as a complete surprise to him.
Speaking earlier on The Saturday Show, he says he’s a close friend and will be a huge loss to the area…
“I’d be particularly very close to Bishop Niall because not only is he a colleague Bishop of mine in Ossory, but he also is a classmate from my Maynooth days where we were in the very same class. We entered the Seminary on the very same day on September 20, in 1988.”
“It’s a huge loss to Ossory, a huge loss to the area because Niall brings with him a great
capacity on culture, on education, a great sense of command of his space and faith and you know, there’s no doubt whatsoever.”
“Niall is going home and that is nice, his mother and family are in Donegal. he’s got
on really well in Ossory and will be missed there as well. So we wish him every blessing, I’ll miss him certainly.”
