An introductory session into gathering and recording old stories from across County Kilkenny will be held at the Mayfair Library this (Saturday) morning from 11am to 1pm.

‘Voices of Heritage’ is being organised by Kilkenny LEADER Partnership and will be delivered by Clonmel-based Abarta Heritage, an award-winning heritage and archaeology company.

Speaking to KCLR News, Julie Kavanagh of Kilkenny LEADER said this is the first time they have funded a course of this kind

“It came up as part of the LEADER local development strategy.   We’re billing it as a story-sharing introductory session, so if people have stories they’d like to share or some pieces of local and oral history they’d like to
share, that’s fantastic, but we’ll be showing people what the course will deliver, what the modules
of the course and the locations and the times and dates, etc.”

“There are four modules and they’ll be delivered, each module will be delivered over two sessions, so two sessions per module, it’ll be eight sessions altogether, and we’re hoping to deliver it in the north of the county and the south of the county.”

“Well, we really hope so and we hope that it will equip people with the skills necessary to have to know about the best practice for recording or heritage, for mapping heritage and giving basic introduction to digital skills, you know, digitally recording and archiving.  So, to give people to fill the skills gap that might be out there for recording and preserving and archiving are very, very rich store of local heritage that we have.”
