People who repeatedly break road traffic laws should be forced to re-sit their driving test.
That’s one of the suggestions from MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, a Carlow native and member of the EU Transport Committee.
There are currently 649 Gardaí working in roads policing—down from just over a thousand in 2009.
Ms. Ní Mhurchú, whose father died in a road collision, says we need tougher penalties.
“More speed vans catching speeding cars and those on their mobile phones, higher fines, more penalty points and sending repeat offenders back to re-sit their driving tests.” said Cynthia.
“Too many families are losing loved ones in our roads, 1 know how that feels and I don’t want any more families having to go through what my family went through, so it’s time for radical action.” she added.
